As the summer months wane, it’s time to start looking toward the start of school and the return of fall.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t squeeze in some last minute fun before the school bell rings! Check out these suggestions for some final summer fun in the sun.
1. Elvis Presley Birthplace
Visit Elvis’ birthplace and learn about the 13 years the King of Rock and Roll spent in Tupelo. Elvis’ father, grandfather, and uncle actually built the house where Elvis was born. You can check it out and see the many phases of Elvis’ life, from 13-year-old Elvis to jumpsuit Elvis.
2. Tupelo Hardware Company
Tupelo Hardware Company supplied Elvis with his first guitar, helping to change music forever. Did you know Elvis was only 11 years old when he got his first guitar? He went in for a bicycle, looked up on the wall and spotted a rifle, which his mother refused to purchase, and left with a guitar. And, the rest is history. To this day, Tupelo Hardware still sells guitars!
3. Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo
The Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo has giraffes, zebras, and buffalo (oh my!) just to name a few. Their mission is to educate others about animals rarely found in Mississippi. You can have an interactive experience and see not-so-average animals up close and personal.
4. Splash Pad in Fairpark
Now that you’ve spent some time outside at the Elvis Presley Birthplace, walked around downtown Tupelo, and explored the Tupelo Buffalo park, head over the the splash pad located in the middle of Fairpark to cool off with some H2O fun! Did you know Fairpark was once the Mississippi-Alabama fair grounds? Elvis even performed two homecoming concerts there after his rise to fame.
